PSR Polytechnic College

The Mechanical Engineering department has been functioning from the inception of the Polytechnic College in the year 2007. The branch was started with an intake of 60 and intake has been increased to 120 in the year 2009 - 2010. The department was extended by increasing its intake to 240 during the academic year 2013-14. The department has carved a niche for itself in the chronicle of the college with highly qualified, committed and knowledgeable faculty members who form the backbone of this department. They direct all efforts that come with commitment and dedication, towards training and teaching our industrious students and moulding them to be competent and highly skilled. Department of Mechanical Engineering aspires to be a leader of ideas and solutions community to transform people to future technology.

LABORATORY FACILITIES

 WORKSHOP

 Introduction to fitting practice and tools used in fitting shop, exercise involving marking cutting and fitting practice. Male and female mating parts practice. Trapping practice. Development of surfaces of various objects, sheet metal forming and joining operations, joints, exercises involving use of sheet metal forming operations for small joints. Introduction to wiring. Stair case wiring, dim and bright wiring, switch box assembling, tube light and fan wiring, fitting of switches and sockets in switch boxes.

 LATHE & DRILLING LABORATORY

 Lathe is one of the most important machine tools in the metal working industry. A lathe operates on the principle of a rotating work piece and a fixed cutting tool. The cutting tool is feed into the work piece, which rotates about its own axis, causing the work piece to be formed to the desired shape. Drilling machines are used to put the hole, counter sinking, counter boring, reaming, boring on the jobs.

 FOUNDRY & WELDING LABORATORY

 Introduction to moulding materials, moulds, use of cores melting furnaces, tools and equipments used in foundry shops, exercises involving preparation of small sand moulds and castings. Introduction to different welding methods, welding machines, electrodes, welding joints, welding defects, exercises involving gas /electric arc welding..

 SPECIAL MACHINES LABORATORY

 The special machines available in the workshop are grinding machine, shaping machine, radial drilling machine, slotting machine and milling machine. These machines are used to change the dimensions and geometry of the job.

 CADD LABORATORY LABORATORY

 The dedicated Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) Laboratory was established in the Year 2007 with the objective of providing Engineering Design services for the academic and also caters to the design and development of service requirement in Industries across the countries. The CADD Lab has been powered with High-End Workstations having powerful processing and graphics capability to work efficiently.

 STRENGTH OF MATERIALS     

 Strength of materials lab is used to analyze the strength, stiffness, hardness, tensile, compression, impact strength, torque of the certain materials.

FLUID MECHANICS LABORATORY

 The lab is designed to give students hands on experience with fluid flows. Water is supplied to various experiments by a large storage tank at the top of the building.

  THERMAL & AUTOMOBILE LABORATORY

 Thermal Engineering lab is equipped with internal combustion engines, test rigs with an aim to inculcate practical knowledge.

 Automobile engineering lab is equipped with all automobile components. So students are able to understand and get appropriate knowledge in those field.

 METROLOGY & METALLOGRAPHY

Metrology lab is used to find that the job is in the level of tolerance or not and also to measure the dimensions by using gauges and various measuring instruments.

REFRIGERATION & AIR CONDITIONING LABORATORY

R & AC lab is equipped with domestic refrigerator, water cooler, window air conditioner, split type air conditioner

PROCESS AUTOMATION LABORATORY

Programmable logic controller is used to control the hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components. Ladder diagrams are the input for this operation.

CNC LABORATORY

Automation is a technology concerned with the application of mechanical, electronic and computer based systems to operate and control production.
